Dies schreiben Schüler über Jims Besuch:

A brilliant English lesson and a cool man.

Der 64-jährige Jim Wingate kennt tolle Geschichten und bringt sie auch sehr gut zur Geltung, denn sie sind mit viel Liebe gestaltet und ausgeschmückt und gar nicht langweilig. Jim erzählt mit „Händen und Füßen“ und macht es den Kindern leicht, alles zu verstehen. Wir finden es prima, dass er die Schüler und Lehrer immer wieder in seine lustigen Geschichten einbezieht und sie auffordert mitzumachen. Insgesamt waren alle begeistert und hatten mit Spaß viel gelernt. Und das alles kostete uns nur wenig Geld, da der Elternbeirat eine beträchtliche Summe dazulegte. Vielen Dank dafür!

“Hello, I’m Jim.“

With a handshake Jim Wingate welcomes every pupil who is invited to his special English lesson. On Wednesday, 7th May, the storyteller from Wales visited our school again. As a modern minnesinger he tells traditional stories that have only been passed on orally. And he does it with passion and enthusiasm. Using facial expression and different gestures he makes the short stories and role plays accessible to his pupils. But he also includes his audience; they act out small roles, become part of the tale. For him it is important to motivate his listeners, encourage them to join in and make the English language easier to understand. In our opinion he did this very well.

Meeting a Scottish Nationalist

Thanks to Mrs Schwietz and Mrs Lutzenberger and to the generous financial support of the Parents’ Association, the two English conversation classes could listen and talk to Jim Wingate, the story teller who visits our 5th classes regularly. Since Mr Wingate was born in Scotland, he was able to give us useful background information about the upcoming referendum on Scottish independence. While telling us about Scottish history, economy and politics and the complicated relationship with England, he still managed to be entertaining.
It was certainly the highlight of the workshop when Mr Wingate left our classroom … only to re-appear a few minutes later in the role of a true Scottish nationalist whom we could interview. We were both confused and fascinated by Mr Wingate’s passion, who staunchly supported Scotland’s independence from England, but finally admitted that the outcome of the referendum is still open.
