English conversation classes visit exhibition

On January 7th, 2014, Mrs Lutzenberger’s and Mrs Schwietz’s English conversation classes (grade 11 and grades 9/10) went on a guided tour of the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition at the Kunsthaus Kaufbeuren.

When we met in front of Mr Pfanner’s room at 1pm it could already be felt that everybody was really looking forward to seeing some of Leonardo’s great inventions. After only a short train ride from Marktoberdorf and a brisk walk through Kaufbeuren’s park and the city centre our small group arrived at the museum, where we were met by a very nice American lady. She was our guide for the next hour and from her we got a lot of information about Leonardo Da Vinci, the famous inventor, engineer, scientist and artist. Amongst other things we saw models of bridges, flying machines, a parachute and instruments for exact time and wind measurement – amazing objects that demonstrate how much this universal genius was ahead of his time. Our guide even allowed us to touch some of the exhibits which were labeled “Don’t touch”, which was great fun, of course. Whereas the boys were most fascinated by objects showing Da Vinci’s advanced defence technology, the girls preferred to learn more about the human body from his detailed sketches in the exhibition’s anatomy section. After the guided tour we were given some time to have a closer look at our favourite exhibits and also to buy some snacks in shops around the museum.

We appreciated this trip very much - not only because we missed our afternoon lessons at school. Thank you, Mrs Lutzenberger and Mrs Schwietz !
